The key idea
USCIS has 10 official steps. We will walk them one by one.
Read the lesson
USCIS describes ten steps: 1. Check whether you are already a U.S. citizen. 2. Check whether you may be eligible for naturalization. 3. Prepare Form N-400. 4. Submit it and pay any required fee. 5. Attend biometrics if USCIS requires an appointment. 6. Complete the interview, including any required English and civics tests. 7. Receive the decision. 8. Receive an oath-ceremony notice if approved. 9. Take the Oath of Allegiance, unless USCIS approves a waiver. 10. Learn the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship. Follow current USCIS instructions and your notices.
