Read the lesson
Your green card is yours. Your passport is yours. A real lawyer may look at a copy. A real lawyer should not keep your only card. If a helper says, Leave your documents. I will handle everything, say no. If they say they have a friend at USCIS, say no. If they want cash only and no receipt, say no. Make copies. Keep the originals. If you already gave documents away, ask for them back today. If they will not return them, that is a warning sign. You can report a scam. If you believe a helper misled you, read the USCIS reporting guidance. An authorized legal professional can advise you about your own case. Keep control of your original documents and save copies. Follow official agency instructions when originals are required.
